A rear gear ratio change is one of the most noticeable performance changes that can be made to the '99-'13 GM Truck platforms. While gear ratio changes do not increase HP or TQ, they make a significant impact on how that power is multiplied and transferred from to the rear wheels. Steeper gears offer quicker acceleration and significant torque multiplication allowing you to put power to the ground faster and more aggressively.
That standard alloy gear sets use an alloy that offers great wear and improved strength over OE gear sets.
The performance alloy gear sets use an alloy that offers greater strength but at the expense of a much shorter lifespan. This alloy is much softer which helps absorb shock and reduce the risk of gear shatter in high powered and/or high traction applications but wears significantly faster on the street. NOT recommended for daily driver applications due to wear rate.
